Our History

The Al Hurriya Liberal Network (AHLN) was officially founded on March 20, 2021, as a coalition of liberal political parties across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Its formation was preceded by informal cooperation among liberal parties starting in 2019, aimed at promoting shared values such as human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

AHLN’s founding purpose was to unify and institutionalize relationships among liberal parties in the MENA region. Our founding members were:

  • •          Tunisia: Afek Tounes
  • •          Egypt: Free Egyptians Party
  • •          Jordan: Free Thought Forum (Associate Member)
  • •          Lebanon: Future Movement
  • •          Morocco: Mouvement Populaire

AHLN continues to grow our platform for liberal collaboration, policy exchange, and regional advocacy. In fact, we are proud to announce the launch of our first-ever Youth Committee, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to empowering young liberal voices across the MENA region. This bold initiative was officially inaugurated during the Youth Committee Training held in Amman, Jordan, in May 2025, during which a dedicated group of young leaders came together to shape the future of liberalism in the region.
